A lot of people think surfing in Fiji is all about performance shapes, big barrels and even bigger egos. Think again. Longboarding is so much fun on the surf breaks around Namotu Island!
Namotu and its surrounding surf breaks are known around the world in many circles; from competitors on the WSL and big wave surfers, paddleboarders and kiters. With a reputation like that it’s not surprising many visitors think of Fiji as big, dangerous and challenging. Others think their boardbag must contain only a narrow selection of performance thrusters and step-ups.
While Cloudbreak, Desperations and Restaurants are usually best served on shorter boards, Swimming Pools, Namotu Lefts, Wilkes and Tavarua Rights are are perfect for longboards and fun shapes.
Harley Ingleby Longboarding in December
Professional longboarder and 2x World Champion, Harley Ingleby visited us in December 2021 and being a clever cookie, he packed a range of boards to cover all angles. From short performance right through to 9ft+ noseriders, Harley had it covered. For people who may not have a full-scale professional quiver – don’t worry! We have plenty of longboards available for our guests to use, all included in your stay.
Forgot to pack a longboard? We’ve got you covered
The best part about Namotu’s user-friendly surf breaks is they’re close – only a few hundred metres from the Island – so you can check the surf from beach and get straight out there when it’s looking good. Unlike other resorts, our boats operate all day, every day so you can head out (and in) when YOU want, no waiting for other people or set boat times.
When to book a trip?
Anytime of year is a good time for waves at Namotu. The summer months (November to March) tend toward smaller swells and glassier days while the cooler months (March-November) are have more frequent and larger swells as well as winder afternoons.
